También se repasan propiedades matemáticas del filtro H-P, para comprender que aspectos se deben considerar. Como aplicación del filtro, se analizan series con periodicidad mensual (IPCO, IPC, y las exportaciones de banano, cacao y flores) y se concluye que el parámetro de suavidad para series mensuales en la economía ecuatoriana es 1600

Surfactant Enhanced Delivery Of C/ebp Homologous Protein And Angiopoietin 2 Silencing Rna To Prevent Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia In Mouse Lung

Objective. To determine if poractant alfa (Curosurf®) could serve as a viable vehicle for silencing RNA (siRNA) delivery. Specifically, we hypothesize that use of Curosurf® as an enhanced delivery vehicle for C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP) and Angiopoietin 2 (Ang2) siRNA would augment gene silencing, preventing cell death and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in the mouse lung. Design. Transfection efficiency of Curosurf® was compared to naked siRNA and Lipofectamine 2000®. MLE-12 cells were transfected with CHOP and Ang2 siRNA using Curosurf®, then exposed to hyperoxic conditions. Cultures were evaluated for respective protein expression and markers of cell death. Curosurf® enhanced siRNA therapy was tested in a hyperoxia-induced mouse model of BPD. Protein expression and lung morphology were assessed and compared to naked siRNA. Results. Curosurf® significantly improved cell transfection rates when compared to naked siRNA alone. Cell cultures treated with Curosurf® enhanced CHOP and Ang2 siRNA delivery had significantly lower levels of expression of their respective protein products. Cleaved caspase 3, a marker of cell death, was also decreased in cells transfected using Curosurf®. Curosurf® enhanced delivery of Ang2 siRNA had a modest, but significant, improvement in mouse lung morphology in a hyperoxia-induced model of BPD. Conclusions. Curosurf® enhances silencing RNA delivery of C/EBP homologous protein and Angiopoietin 2, resulting in an improvement in mouse lung phenotype in a hyperoxia-induced model of BPD

This study will use a qualitative and quantitative methodology to investigate and analyze if special education departments of school districts and universities are following the federal law in preparing students with learning disabilities to succeed in college. Research indicates universities are not complying with the federal mandates for learning disabled students. This research project will investigate whether or not some school districts and universities are implementing programs consistent with federal law

Plasma Membrane-Associated Restriction Factors and Their Counteraction by HIV-1 Accessory Proteins.

The plasma membrane is a site of conflict between host defenses and many viruses. One aspect of this conflict is the host's attempt to eliminate infected cells using innate and adaptive cell-mediated immune mechanisms that recognize features of the plasma membrane characteristic of viral infection. Another is the expression of plasma membrane-associated proteins, so-called restriction factors, which inhibit enveloped virions directly. HIV-1 encodes two countermeasures to these host defenses: The membrane-associated accessory proteins Vpu and Nef. In addition to inhibiting cell-mediated immune-surveillance, Vpu and Nef counteract membrane-associated restriction factors. These include BST-2, which traps newly formed virions at the plasma membrane unless counteracted by Vpu, and SERINC5, which decreases the infectivity of virions unless counteracted by Nef. Here we review key features of these two antiviral proteins, and we review Vpu and Nef, which deplete them from the plasma membrane by co-opting specific cellular proteins and pathways of membrane trafficking and protein-degradation. We also discuss other plasma membrane proteins modulated by HIV-1, particularly CD4, which, if not opposed in infected cells by Vpu and Nef, inhibits viral infectivity and increases the sensitivity of the viral envelope glycoprotein to host immunity

Optimizing Collection of Trace Biological Samples from Vehicle Headrests

Tape-lifting and swabbing are two methods commonly used for collecting biological samples in the United Kingdom and United States to investigate vehicle crimes. Determining the optimal collection method may lead to an increase in generating DNA profiles and crime-solving. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of adhesive tape and the double-swab collection methods for investigating vehicle crimes with possible touch DNA samples. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the use of tape-lifts and swabs on spiked common vehicle fabric materials. The efficiency of recovery between the two collection methods was performed using qPCR. The results from the collection of fabric materials indicated tape-lifts outperformed swabbing on cloth and vinyl substrates, while swabbing resulted in comparable recovery on leather substrates. By optimizing sample collection techniques, we aim to aid not only investigations involving vehicles but also other crimes with touch DNA evidence present
